Intravenous Dental Sedation

If you are nervous about having dental treatment or you are having a procedure that may cause discomfort your dentist might suggest carrying out your treatment under intravenous sedation.
Intravenous sedation is a safe and effective adjunct to treatment used to help you relax during dental procedures.
It involves:
- The sedative agent is given by injection into a vein in your arm or the back of the hand
- You will remain conscious at all times and you will be able to talk and respond to verbal instructions
- Once sedated you will also receive local anaesthetic so that the treatment can be carried out
- Afterwards you will probably have a little or no memory of the procedure
Please note, this is not a general anaesthetic and you will be awake, but very relaxed, throughout the procedure.
